Softball Opens West Coast Trip at St. Mary's Wednesday

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech softball team (13-4, 0-0 ACC) carries its five-game winning streak into a doubleheader with St. Mary’s Wednesday at Moraga, Calif. Action is slated to begin at 1:30 local time (4:30 EST).

The Gaels enter the contest with a 4-13 record. The Jackets and St. Mary’s have met on one previous occasion, with the Gaels posting a 7-1 win in 2000.

Offensively, Tech is led by sophomore shortstop Tara Knudsen. She leads the team with a .455 batting average, four home runs and 17 runs batted in. Junior Tara Neff ranks second on the squad with a .333 average, while junior second baseman Felicia Coursey leads the team with 13 runs scored and four stolen bases.

On the mound, Tech owns a 1.20 team earned run average. Sophomore Erin Voetz owns a 0.97 mark, leading the team. She stands at 4-2 with 26 strikeouts. Freshman Jessica Sallinger is currently 7-2 with a 1.02 ERA. She has 80 strikeouts in just 61.2 innings pitched.

Following Wednesday’s games, the Jackets open play in San Jose State’s National Invitational Softball Tournament Friday. Tech will play Syracuse and Iowa to open the event, followed by bracket play.
