GAINESVILLE, Fla. – On the opening day of the 2023 ITA Southeast Regionals, Kate Sharabura punched her ticket to the main draw with a second-round singles win in qualifying action. The five-day tournament, hosted by the University of Florida, is being played at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex and featured two rounds of qualifying singles and doubles on Thursday.
Action kicked off with Meera Jesudason collecting a first-round win over Haley Gaudette of Georgia. Jesudason made quick work of the Bulldog, dropping only one game en route to a 6-0, 6-1 victory to advance to the second round. Vying for a spot in the main draw, Jesudason faced Magdalena Hedrzak of Stetson in the afternoon, but dropped a hard-fought, 6-4, 6-2 decision.
Also competing in the first round, Ruth Marsh battled North Florida’s Alisa Lyshko, but fell, 6-3, 6-4. Sharabura earned a first-round bye and took the court in the afternoon against Nadejda Maslova of Stetson. The Yellow Jacket pocketed a three-set victory over Maslova, 6-2, 5-7, 6-3, to secure a spot in the main draw.
Main draw action gets underway on Friday with the first round of doubles followed by two rounds of singles play. Action begins at 9 a.m.
