THE FLATS – Georgia Tech will wear adidas uniforms that pay tribute to the Yellow Jackets’ 1990 national championship team versus No. 3/2 Clemson on Saturday.
Saturday’s uniforms will feature gold helmets, blue jerseys and white pants – the same combination that Tech wore for home games during its run to the 1990 national title, including a thrilling 21-19 triumph over nationally ranked Clemson on Oct. 13 at Bobby Dodd Stadium.
2018 alternate uniform unveil
While inspired by the 1990 national champs, the uniforms integrate the innovative look and feel that adidas has brought to Georgia Tech this fall, utilizing the same state-of-the-art materials and design elements of the Yellow Jackets’ previously unveiled 2018 uniforms.
Wearing their home uniform of gold helmets, blue jerseys and white pants, Marco Coleman and the Yellow Jackets beat Clemson, 21-19, on Oct. 13, 1990 at Bobby Dodd Stadium
“When we went about designing our first alternate uniform for Georgia Tech, we wanted to highlight the great football tradition at Tech,” said Cam Collins, adidas senior production manager for football apparel. “What better way to do that than by paying homage to the most recent Yellow Jackets football team to hoist the national championship trophy while also embracing the innovative style and collaborative spirit of adidas and Georgia Tech?”
Shawn Jones and the Yellow Jackets also wore the gold-blue-white combo for its 45-21 win over Nebraska in the 1991 Florida Citrus Bowl, which clinched Georgia Tech’s fourth national championship.
Saturday’s game is set for 3:30 p.m. at Bobby Dodd Stadium and will be televised nationally on ABC. Georgia Tech has won five of its last six home matchups versus Clemson and is 44-14-2 at home against the Tigers all-time. The Jackets have won nine of their last 10 home games overall, dating back to 2016.
Tickets are still available for the GT-Clemson showdown. A very limited number of lower-level tickets still remain and can only be purchased as part of an ACC Flex Pack. Starting at just $130, ACC Flex Packs include tickets to Saturday’s game versus Clemson, the Nov. 10 battle against Miami (Fla.) and either the homecoming game versus Duke (Oct. 13) or the home finale against Virginia (Nov. 17).
