As A Junior In 2013-14: Established career-best times in both the 100 breast and 200 IM during the season… Finished eighth overall in the 100 breast at the GT Invitational and put down a career-best time of 1:03.87, which ranks seventh on Tech[apos]s all-time list… Was part of the 200 medley relay with Carly Sweeney, Kate Brandus and Erika Staskevicius that finished 10th overall at the ACC Championship in a time of 1:42.14.
As A Sophomore In 2012-13: Set career-best times in her two marquee events — the 100 breast and 200 breast… Scored points at the ACC Championship on both the 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay… Set her season-best time in the 200 breast at the Georgia Tech Invitational of 2:17.91, which good for sixth place, was the fastest by a Yellow Jacket in 2012-13 and ranked second-fastest all-time in Tech history… Finished seventh in the 100 breast at GT Invitational in a career-best time of 1:04.18 that ranked seventh-fastest in school history… Teamed with Carly Sweeney, Kate Brandus and Erika Staskevicius on the 200 medley relay that put down the second-best time in school history (1:42.08) and finished eighth at the ACC Championship… Her 400 medley relay of Sweeney, Brandus and Kate Riley also finished eighth at the ACCs in a time of 3:45.29 — the fifth-fastest in school history.
As A Freshman In 2011-12: Set all three season-best times at the ACC Championship… Finished 22nd in the 100 breast in a time of 1:04.93, which ranked seventh on Tech[apos]s all-time list… Was Tech[apos]s top finisher in the 200 breast, finishing 16th overall in a time of 2:22.29, after posting the Yellow Jackets[apos] fastest 200 breast time of the season of 2:18.26 (ranked fourth on Tech[apos]s all-time list) in the prelims… Her 200 IM season-best time was 2:19.12… She picked up her first event victory with a time of 1:06.01 to win the 100 breast versus Emory… Was part of the 200 medley relay at the Georgia Tech Invitational that set the seventh-fastest time in Tech history (1:44.90), while the 400 medley relay set the eighth-fastest Tech time (3:48.78).
Before Tech: Attended St. Anne[apos]s Diocesan College in Hilton, South Africa and Players Academy College in Pretoria where she was a four year letter winner in Hockey, Water Polo and Swimming and a three year letter winner in Tennis, captaining the team each of her three seasons … Helped her team to win the independent schools district league in 2006, 2007 and 2008 … Also a member of the hockey team that won the state league in 2009 and 2010 and the water polo team to achieve the same feat in 2008 and 2009.
Personal: Born Catherine Amy Richards on July 28, 1992 in Westville, Durban Kwa-Zulu Natal … Parents are Peter and Pippa Richards … Sister to Michael and Georgina … Chose to come to Georgia Tech because of the coaching staff, the facilities and technology and to compete at the Division I level … Enjoys body boarding, deep sea fishing, scrapbooking and taking photos … Started swimming at the age of two … Greatest athletic accomplishment was winning the 100 and 200m Breast at Aqua bears and beating two of the girls that had been chosen for various South African national teams … Undecided in her major.
