THE FLATS – No. 24 Georgia Tech baseball had the bats awaken in a big way on Saturday as it poured on 13 hits en route to a 13-5 win over in-state foe Kennesaw State at Mac Nease Baseball Park at Russ Chandler Stadium.
Stephen Reid led the way for the Yellow Jackets (21-17), finishing a perfect 4-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI. Austin Wilhite was also perfect at 3-for-3 also launched a homer four two RBI. Kevin Parada also had a huge bases-loaded double as part of his two hits for three RBI. Drew Compton provided the team’s fourth home run of the day.
Starter RHP Marquis Grissom, Jr. went 3.2 innings to begin, surrendering four runs on five hits before LHP Joseph Mannelly (2-0) settled the game with 1.1 innings of one hit, one run baseball. RHP Chance Huff, LHP Sam Crawford and RHP Brody Westbrooks slammed the door, allowing just two hits in 4.0 shutout innings.
The Owls (25-13) was led by Tyler Tolve and Alex Carballo at the plate, who both finished 1-for-4 on the day with a home run each. On the mound, RHP Luke Torbert (5-3) received the loss after giving up seven runs.
Georgia Tech travels to KSU for the finale and rubber match on Sunday, May 2. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. and will be broadcast live on YouTube and WREK 91.1 FM.
