Rajevac Leads Tech Men's Tennis on Day Two of ITA Regional

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – A pair of Georgia Tech men’s tennis singles players in senior West Nott and sophomore Marko Rajevac recorded a pair of wins on Thursday to advance qualifying round into the main singles draw of the ITA Region II Championship in Chapel Hill, N.C. The event is being held at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center at the University of North Carolina.

Nott was one of the first players to advance on the day, as he defeated Campbell’s Martin Parkes in the round of 32 in straight sets. He won the first set with ease, 6-0, before winning a tiebreaker in the second set to claim the match 7-6 (2). In the round of 16, Nott disposed of Virginia’s Darrin Cohen in straight sets. After winning the first set 6-1 he then advanced with a 6-4 second-set victory. Nott will face second-seeded Ludovic Walter of Duke in the first round of the main draw on Friday.

Rajevac opened his day with a hard-fought three-set win over William & Mary’s Steven Kane. He won the first set in a tiebreaker 7-6 (5), before being shut out in the second set 6-0. Rajevac then rallied in the third set for a 6-4 win. In the round of 16, he had little trouble with Campbell’s Zorick Toltsan, winning in straight sets by matching scores of 6-2, 6-2. He will now face third-seeded Nicholas Monroe of North Carolina in the main draw on Friday morning.

In doubles action, the Yellow Jackets’ eighth-seeded doubles team of Scott Schnugg and Rajevac recorded a pair of wins to reach the quarterfinals of the main draw. In the first round, the duo defeated William & Mary’s Alex Fish and Jeff Kader by an 8-6 score. In the round of 16, the team downed ninth-seeded Jeff Groslimond and Chris Westerhof of Florida State by an 8-4 count. Rajevac and Schnugg will now face Virginia’s Nick Methayler and Rylan Rizza on Friday night.
