Rain Forces Day One of Georgia Tech Invitational Indoors

Atlanta – The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team opened the 2000-01 season today with the Georgia Tech Invitational. The Yellow Jackets host UAB, Florida A&M, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Jacksonville and UNC Greensboro in the three-day event.

Rainy weather throughout the day in Atlanta forced all matches to be played on the three courts inside the Bill Moore Tennis Center. Therefore, the competition was limited to doubles play with singles competition postponed until Saturday.

In Doubles Flight A, Georgia Tech’s Bobbi Guthrie and Laura Ozolins advanced to play Monika Schmid and Mirela Vladulesco of UAB in the finals, tentatively scheduled for Sunday. Yellow Jacket twins Lea and Mason Miller won their first match before falling to Schmid and Vladulesco, 8-4.

The Georgia Tech Invitational continues with singles play Saturday at 9:00 a.m.
