Georgia Tech Head Coach Brian Gregory

“First off, Chattanooga has played a very difficult non-conference schedule. He’s done a great job with that team.  They’re young, and as they get into their conference play, they are going to do very well.  They gave us a ton of trouble, changing up defenses.”

“What they did well and really gave us trouble for the first time in a long time is that they really went after us in the post and we were not able to defend that. Give them credit.  They made some subs and went after us in the post and did a great job.  We were fortunate to go on the run in the last eight minutes of the first half.”

“In the second half, offensively we were very good.  I thought, except for some of that post stuff, we were very good on the defensive end on the first half.  In the second half we weren’t as good defensively, but improved offensively. It was a tale of two halves in the case of doing the things we need to continue to improve.”

“One of the key markers for a team in the rebuilding phase is to not lose games that they shouldn’t.  I think that when you look over these first 12 games we took care of the business that we were supposed to take care of. I was worried about this game.”

“They started out really well, but our older players, with Mfon and Daniel, came out and played the way upperclassmen are supposed to play.”

“Daniel made play after play after play for us. On the defensive end he single-handedly blew up five or six different plays.”

“The bench was good tonight.  As we progress in the ACC we’re going to have to take advantage of that to be successful.”

“We did a great job with turnovers tonight.  That is one of the areas that we continue to improve on.  We do have to do a better job of not turning it over in the post however.”

“The first couple weeks of our league play, not that any of it is going to be easy, we start off with a team picked in the top four of the league.  Miami we struggled with both times last year.  They play extremely well on the defensive end, and they play extremely physical.  They have a lot of offensive weapons as well. We’re going to have to play extremely well on both ends of the floor to be successful on Saturday afternoon.”

Chattanooga Coach John Shulman

Opening statement:

“Probably a really hard game, as crazy as it may sound, for us to be ready for and them to be ready for – they’re thinking about Miami, we’re thinking about Samford. Brian Gregory has done a great job. Wow, has he done a great job. He’s got young kids. They defend, they rebound, they kicked our tail on the glass, and we’re usually pretty good on the glass. They won the game on the glass. They weren’t real sharp, and they still won. That’s a compliment to him and having his guys ready to come out in the second half and just whip our tail on the glass.”

“We leave here hopefully a better team, and good luck to them. They’re not in our league, which is a good thing.”

On getting ball inside early:

“We played in character the whole game.  They’re just big. They did a nice job getting the ball inside. I thought did a great job getting the ball in the second half. I think at one time we were down on the glass in the second half 13-0. We take great pride, for our level we’re a great rebounding team. They took it to another level. They’re pretty good at it.”

On team play:

“We’ve had a good run. We’d won three in a row coming in here. Like I just told them, this one is over. It’s time to worry about that next one. We’ve got an important one on Saturday, and so do they. We don’t leave here a worse team. “

“I watched a bunch of Georgia Tech tapes, and they’re annihilating people right now. I wouldn’t consider us getting annihilated tonight. We still felt we had had a shot with under three minutes to go.”
