ATLANTA (Jan. 22) – Georgia Tech senior sprinter and long jumper Clayton Porter has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Track and Field Athlete of the Week for January 22, as announced by the league office in Greensboro, N.C.
Porter, who turned in a solid performance at the Kroger Invitational in Blacksburg, Va., this past weekend, shared the honor with Florida State’s Shawn Brown. He is the first Yellow Jacket to earn the ACC weekly honor during the 2000-01 season.
At the Kroger Invitational, the Chesapeake, Va., native finished fourth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.87 seconds, which tied him for the fastest time in the ACC this year with Virginia’s Shay Clark. Later in the meet, Porter placed sixth in the long jump with his leap of 24′ 11.25″, which is the best jump at Tech this year, and the second-best mark to date in the ACC.
