ATLANTA-Georgia Tech standout Eric Patterson and golf star Nick Thompson were named the Wendy’s Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, June 7, 2004.
Patterson, a junior from Kennesaw, Ga., helped lead Tech to a perfect 3-0 record in the NCAA Atlanta Regional. He was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Atlanta Regional. Patterson went 7-for-13 (.538) over the weekend with a home run and 4 RBI. He stole two bases and scored three runs for the Jackets. In game one, he went 3-for-4, with a home run and four RBI in Tech’s 16-3 win over Jacksonville State.
Thompson, a junior from Coral Springs, Fla., tied for 17th individually to lead Georgia Tech’s effort last week at the NCAA Men’s Golf Championship. Tech finished fifth in the team race, their fourth top-five finish in the last five years in the NCAA Championship. He shot 4-over-par 284, including an even-par 70 in the opening round and a 2-under-par 68 in the third round. Thompson finished the year with a stroke average of 71.17, the third-best in the ACC.
