THE FLATS – Continuing to build on his already-impressive resume this season, Georgia Tech baseball sophomore catcher Kevin Parada (Pasadena, Calif./Loyola HS) was named a National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball on Monday for the third time this year.
The 21st-ranked Yellow Jackets’ catcher was red-hot last week when he hit a home run in four-straight games, dating back to April 24. His performance at the plate was key in Tech’s series victory over then-No. 3 Miami (Fla.) as the first two games were won by a score of 3-1 and 7-5, respectively.
Overall, Parada hit .353 for the week, recording six hits and eight RBI, while slugging 1.059.
With his four home runs last week, the Pasadena, Calif. native is now the nation’s sole home run leader at 23 on the year. With at least nine games remaining, Parada is currently tied for third all-time in Georgia Tech’s single-season history with the Jackets’ 2019 catcher and current member of the Oakland Athletics’ organization, Kyle McCann.
On the season, Parada also ranks first in the country in total bases (154), second in the country in RBI (74), fifth in hits (74), sixth in runs (59), and ninth in slugging (.794). He ranks also ranks fifth in the ACC in batting average (.381) and is the third-toughest to strikeout (9.2 at-bats-per-strikeout).
No. 21 Georgia Tech returns to the road next week when it heads to Clemson on May 6-8. First pitches are scheduled for 7 p.m., 3 p.m., 1 p.m., respectively with Friday nationally broadcast on ACC Network.
