CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams each placed 11th at the 2007 Atlantic Coast Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning at Panorama Farms in Charlottesville, Va.
The Virginia men and Florida State women won the team crowns at the championship meet. The Tech men finished with a total of 271 points, while the women closed out the day with 277. NC State senior Chris Kollar finished in first place on the men’s side, as did Florida State sophomore Susan Kuijken in the women’s race.
Senior David Herren was the top Tech performer on the men’s team with a 16th-place finish overall. Herren finished the 8K race in a time of 23:35. Senior Cristan Duvall placed 45th overall with a time of 25:38. Finishing third for Tech and 69th overall was junior E.C. Gibbs, who crossed the line with a time of 26:18.
Sophomore Matt Hickey finished 74th in the championship race with a time of 26:39. Rounding out the top-five finishers for Tech was junior Casey Gramling, who came in 77th with a time of 26:47.
In the women’s 6K race, senior Elena Linn finished first for Tech and 29th overall with a time of 22:20. Senior Jenny Sims placed 42nd overall with a time of 22:50, while another senior, Nisha Kurian, finished 60th in a time of 23:30.
Finishing in 78th place was sophomore Lindsey Pickens with a time of 24:28. She was followed in by senior Maria Hampton, who place 79th overall (24:30).
The Tech cross country teams will take a week off to prepare for the NCAA South Region Championships on Saturday, Nov. 10 in Gainesville, Fla.
