ARLINGTON, TX (Sept. 3) – Maja Pachale (Schwerin, Germany) shined in the Georgia Tech (1-0) volleyball team’s season opener, as she collected 15 kills and hit .583 while contributing 13 digs, as the Yellow Jackets defeated Texas-El Paso (0-2) in three games, 15-5, 15-7, 15-13.
“I was real impressed with our composure for our first match of the season,” said Collier. “We were really composed and looked like a veteran team even though it was only our first match. We were able to play two completely different line-ups and win a match which I think is going to help us as the season progresses.”
“I was particuarly impressed with Maja Pachale,” continued Collier, “who came back from this summer in great shape and was a dominant force for us in the match, both offensively and defensively.” “I am real pleased to get off with a good first match, get a win under a belt and one step closer to our goal of winning the tournament.”
It was a homecoming for two team members, Anna Nedderman (Euless,Tx) and Sara McKee (Highland Village, TX) and both played extremely well in front of friends and family. Nedderman recorded seven kills and five block assists while McKee who played only back row due to a shoulder problem contributed several key serve reception passes.
“Both Anna and Sara played very well in front of their home crowds. Anna was very effective and Sara played only in the back row to save her for tomorrow and we plan on bringing her out as a full-time player in the matches tomorrow. Both players are enjoying playing in front of their friends and family and I was real pleased with the match they had.”
The Yellow Jackets will face Arkansas-Little Rock (1-0) tomorrow at 12 p.m. before facing Texas-Arlington (1-0) at 7 p.m. in the final match of the tournament.
