Notebook: Jackets Compete in Summer Tournaments

THE FLATS – The Yellow Jackets have been busy representing Georgia Tech this summer. Having already competed in tournaments this summer, earning pro points, Andres Martin and Keshav Chopra returned to action this past weekend.

M25 Tulsa Tournament
After reaching the finals of the M25 East Lansing tournament a week ago, Martin sought his second finals appearance at the M25 Tulsa Pro Championships in Oklahoma. Martin reached the semifinals behind three victories. Earning a wild card, Martin topped John McNally (USA) in three sets in first round action before facing top-seeded Yu Hsiou Hsu (TPE) in the second round. Martin came away with a 6-0, 6-3 triumph to face Murphy Cassone (USA) in the quarterfinals, collecting a 6-0, 6-2 decision. In semifinal action, Martin fell to Govind Nanda (USA), 6-4, 6-3.

PTT $25K ATLANTA MEN
Competing on familiar ground, Chopra took home the title at the PTT $25K Atlanta Men’s tournament at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Ga. The Yellow Jackets’ victory comes on the heels of training in Spain this summer and competing in doubles at the M25 La Nucia tournament.

Atlanta Open
On Tuesday, June 28, Martin participated in the 2022 Atlanta Open Media Day at Atlantic Station. Martin, who received a wild card entry into the main draw in May, joined tournament director Eddie Gonzalez for a quick question and answer session before the main draw field was announced. Martin will compete during ‘College Night’, which is designed to showcase college tennis as a pathway to the professional ranks.  College Night will take place Tuesday, July 26 at 7 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase at the Atlanta Open website.
