North & Molnar Advance on Day Two of Baylor Intercollegiates

Sept. 23, 2006

WACO, Tex. – David North won another two singles matches and teamed with Eric Molnar to advance to the semifinals of the doubles bracket on day two of the Baylor 2006 HEB Intercollegiate, which is being contested at the Baylor Tennis Center Sept. 22-24.

The duo fought to a 7-3 victory in the doubles tiebreaker over Chris Biro and Kraigler Brink of TCU in Saturday’s quarterfinal match and will play their semifinal match Sunday afternoon.

Earlier in the day, North fought back in his Round of 16 and quarterfinal singles matches, both against ranked opponents, to advance to Sunday morning’s semifinal match against Baylor’s 23rd-ranked Michal Kokta.

“David played like a champion today,” said Georgia Tech assistant coach Josh Hausman. “He dug in and fought like you wouldn’t believe. He was down a set in both of his singles matches and wouldn’t give up. He just fought until he pulled out both of the wins. It was phenomenal to see him step up and play the way that he has in the last few matches.”

In North’s first match of the day, the South Africa native stopped Louisville’s 29th-ranked Slavko Radman, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 to set up the quarterfinal match against No. 110 Denes Lukacs. Against the Baylor standout, North fell behind by losing the first set 5-7, but came back with 6-4, 6-3 wins in the next two sets to set up Sunday’s semifinal match against Kokta.

North will return to action Sunday morning at 8 a.m., with the singles championship to follow. The Jackets’ first doubles match of the day will begin at the completion of North’s singles play Sunday.
