No. 7 Tech Women Blank No. 67 Maryland, 7-0

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The seventh-ranked Georgia Tech women’s tennis team snapped back after dropping their first conference match of the season to blank No. 67 Maryland, 7-0, Friday afternoon in College Park, Md.

Georgia Tech (9-4, 1-1 ACC) won two of three doubles matches and all six singles matches to win their first conference match of the year.

Alison Silverio and Amanda Craddock started the Jackets off on a positive note, defeating Michal Amir and Maggie MacKeever, 8-1, at the top of the doubles lineup before the doubles tandem of Kristi Miller and Amanda McDowell gave the Jackets the point with an 8-1 win over Lisa Miller and Elyse Steiner at the No. 3 slot.

Craddock helped Tech to a 2-0 lead when she dispatched Masha Senic, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 6 singles before Tarryn Rudman gave the Jackets the 3-0 edge with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Brooke Rogers at the No. 5 singles position.

With a 6-3, 6-2 win over Steiner at the No. 3 spot, Kirsten Flower clinched the match for the Yellow Jackets, while Silverio pushed the score to 5-0 with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Amir at No. 5 singles.

McDowell and Miller then finished off the match with straight-set victories at the Nos. 4 and 1 singles positions for the sweep. McDowell stopped MacKeever, 6-2, 6-3, and Miller defeated Marianne Baker, 6-2, 7-5

The Jackets will continue on to Boston College, where they play the Eagles Sunday morning at 10 a.m.
