No. 27 Cavaliers Sweep No. 33 Jackets

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – No. 33 Georgia Tech concluded weekend play dropping a tough match at No. 27 Virginia, 7-0. The loss dropped the Yellow Jackets to 9-9 overall and 6-5 in league play.

DOUBLES ACTION: Virginia gained the early advantage securing the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. Georgia Tech’s Victoria Flores and Nadia Gizdova took court three over Hunter Blesser and Meghan Kelley, 7-5, after Virginia secured court two, 6-2. The doubles point was left to be decided on court one where No. 70 Chloe Gullickson and Amber O’Dell led Valeriya Deminova and Kenya Jones, 4-2. Tech knotted the match at 4-4 before both pairs held serve to 5-all. Virginia won the next two games to secure the match, 7-5, and the doubles point.

SINGLES ACTION: Virginia carried momentum from doubles play into singles action, dropping only two sets in sweeping singles play. The Cavaliers clinched the match with straight-set wins on courts six, one and three. On court two, Otsuka took the first set over Vivian Glozman, 6-3, but the Cavalier took set two, 6-2, to force a super tiebreak. Glozman secured the match, winning the tiebreak, 10-6. Gullickson cushioned Virginia’s lead with a 6-4, 7-5 win on court four before Sofia Munera completed the sweep with a three-set battle on court five. Gia Cohen took the first set over Munera, but battled back to pocket the next two sets and the match.

UP NEXT: Georgia Tech takes a break from league play to play a doubleheader at North Alabama on Tuesday. First serve is slated for 11 a.m.
