Georgia Tech officially opens the home slate of the spring schedule this week after competing in the Carolina Kickoff last weekend. The Yellow Jackets posted a successful tournament at South Carolina, collecting 12 singles wins and five doubles victories. For her success, freshman Alejandra Cruz was tabbed ACC Co-Freshman of the Week. Cruz went 4-2 in singles and doubles combined, extending her impressive fall season.
Georgia State gets its season started on Friday after going 17-6 overall last season and 9-1 in Sun Belt action. The Panthers reached the semifinals of the Sun Belt Championship after claiming a share of the regular season title. Georgia Tech leads the all-time series against Georgia State, 23-4, having won the past 11 meetings dating back to 1998. The teams last met in 2019 with Tech sweeping the match, 7-0, at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex.
Georgia Tech remained steady at No. 25 in the latest ITA rankings released on Wednesday. Tech is one of six Atlantic Coast Conference women’s tennis teams ranked in the top 25.
