No. 23 Tech Women's Tennis Defeats San Diego, 6-1

SAN DIEGO – The 23rd-ranked Georgia Tech women’s tennis team got its spring break trip to California off to a strong start, by defeating San Diego by a 6-1 score on Sunday afternoon at the USD West Tennis Courts in San Diego, Calif.

The Yellow Jackets (8-2) got things going early in the match by winning the doubles point with a sweep of all three matches. Tech’s team of Mysti Morris and Sekita Grant defeated the Toreros’ (0-12) Liz Rapp and Catherine Heppell by an 8-2 score at No. 1, while Mason Miller and Catherine Gunn downed Paola Arrangioz and Tara Livesay at No. 2 by an 8-1 count. In the third doubles match of the day, Fallon Koon and Jaime Wong topped Anne Seppi and Lauren Kazarian, 8-2.

In singles play, Tech continued to roll, as Morris started the Jackets charge with a win at No. 1 over Arrangioz in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5. Jaime Wong, who downed Heppell at No.2 in a three-set affair, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, followed Morris at No. 2. Mason Miller was a winner at the No. 4 position, defeating Liz Rapp in straight sets by a 6-4, 6-4 score, while Koon won her match with Seppi at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-1. Laura Ozolins was Tech’s final singles winner of the day, defeating Kazarian in straight sets, 6-0, 7-5.

The Toreros’ lone singles win came at No. 3, as Livesay defeated the Jackets’ Grant in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.

Georgia Tech will return to action on Monday, when it travels to San Diego State to face the 44th-ranked Aztecs in a match that will begin at 5 p.m. EST.
