AUBURN, Ala. – In a complete pitcher’s battle, Hope Rush and the No. 20 Georgia Tech softball team came out the victor with a 1-0 upset win over No. 4 Oklahoma late Friday night in game two of the ACC/SEC/Big 12 Challenge.
Rush helped to improve Tech’s record to 7-2 in 2012 and earn her third victory of the season. The junior notched seven strikeouts on the night in the two-hitter, handing the Sooners (6-1) their first shutout and loss of the season.
Rush helped herself out in the fourth inning coming to the plate with the bases loaded and delivering the only run of the game. She roped a line drive to centerfield that looked like it might hit the wall, but Destinee Martinez had a good jump on it and tracked it down. The ball was deep enough though that Ashley Thomas was able to scamper home to give Tech a 1-0 lead.
The Jackets will return to action tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. CT when they take on No. 18 Oklahoma State in their third game of the ACC/SEC/Big 12 Challenge.
