The No. 18 Georgia Tech men’s tennis team fell by a 7-0 score to No. 35 Florida State Sunday afternoon.With the loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 6-3, 0-3 Atlantic Coast Conference while the Seminoles improve to 7-6, 1-1 ACC.
The Seminoles claimed the doubles point, winning at all three positions. Florida State started doubles off with a win at No. 3 as Sam Chang and Jonathas Sucupira teamed to beat Jordan Delass and George Gvelesiani, 8-5. Soon after, Maciek Sykut and Bailey defeated Scott Blackmon and Zachary Rath, 8-4 at No. 2, giving FSU the point. The Seminoles then completed the sweep as David North and Marko Rajevac fell to Ytai Abougzir and Chris Westerhof at No. 1, 9-7.
In singles action, Florida State won all six matches in straight sets. The Seminoles started things off with a win from No. 103 Abougzir at No. 1 over Rajevac, 6-3, 6-2. Florida State then made the score 3-0 with a win at No. 4 singles from #109 Sykut over Delass, 6-2, 6-2. The Seminoles then clinched the match as Tech’s North fell at No. 2 singles to Sucupira, 6-3, 6-3.
In the final three singles matches on the day, FSU’s Chang beat Rath at No. 3 singles, 7-5, 6-2 while Westerhof defeated the Jackets’ Gvelesiani at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-2. The Seminoles then completed the sweep with a 6-4, 6-2 win from Chris Cloer at No. 6 over Blackmon.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action Wednesday when they travel to face No. 1 Georgia at 3 p.m. in Athens, Ga. on the campus of the University of Georgia.
