THE TIP-OFF
Georgia Tech and Georgia Southern are meeting for the ninth time in program history. The Yellow Jackets lead the all-time series, 6-2, including a 5-1 mark when competing at home. Entering Friday’s matchup, Georgia Tech owns a six-game win streak over the Eagles dating back to 1960. The squads met last season in McCamish Pavilion with the Jackets securing a 68-66 decision.

LAST TIME OUT
The Scott Cross era opened in style on Tuesday night as Georgia Tech basketball raced out to a 42-15 halftime lead and never trailed in a 75-55 season-opening win over Hampton. Tech shot 41.8% (28-for-670 from the field, while holding Hampton to just 27.9% (17-for-61). Three Jackets scored in double-figures – Colby Garland (16), Kam Craft (12) and Jackson Fields (10) – while Cole Kirouac pulled led with a game-high 10 rebounds.

BLOCK PARTY
Tylis Jordan recorded five blocks in his collegiate debut against Hampton – four coming in the first half. The five blocks marked the most by a Yellow Jacket in a game since Javon Franklin did it three times in the 2022-23 season. It also marked the first time a Yellow Jacket posted five blocks in a season-opener since James Banks posted five against NC State on Nov. 5, 2019.

THE CROSS ERA CONTINUES

The Scott Cross era officially got underway with a 75-55 victory on Tuesday night over Hampton. Cross looks to go 2-0 to open a season for the 11th time in his career and extend his streak to three-straight seasons. Cross was named the 16th head coach in Georgia Tech men’s basketball history in March 2026. He carries over 25 years of collegiate coaching experience, including 19 seasons as a head coach and brings a 350-260 all-time record as a head coach to Georgia Tech. Cross has led teams to four regular-season conference championships, three conference tournament titles, three NCAA Tournaments and eight total postseason berths.

INSIDE THE ROSTER
The Yellow Jackets are composed of a 15-member squad with 13 newcomers that include seven transfers and a six-member freshmen class. Earlier this summer, Tech took a foreign tour to The Bahamas for a pair of international exhibition contests for the first set of matchups this season. Tech grabbed both matchups behind double-figure totals from Nasir Whitlock, who led the Jackets at 19.5 points per game, and Courtland Muldrew (19.0 ppg).

Tech returns just two from the 2025-26 roster – fifth year Kam Craft and sophomore Cole Kirouac – for just 19.0 percent of its scoring. Tech is one of three teams in the Atlantic Coast Conference to return 12 percent or less of its scoring from last season.

UP NEXT
Georgia Tech continues this eight-game homestand to open the 2026-27 season on Tuesday, Nov. 10, welcoming Eastern Kentucky to McCamish Pavilion. Tip is slated for 7 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
