SET BY SET
Set 1 (GT 19 – LOU 25)
The opening set proved competitive as Louisville went on several scoring runs, but Tech consistently worked to keep the Cardinals from pulling away. The Jackets held their ground until Louisville put together a five-point run to take a 21-15 lead late in the set. Despite a late effort from Tech, the Cardinals claimed the opening set, 25-19. Following her 33-kill performance on Friday, Bennour opened Sunday’s contest leading all hitters with six kills in the first set. The freshman also contributed to one of Tech’s three blocks, while Bianca Garibaldi recorded two blocks, including one solo. Heloise Soares led the Jackets in assists, recording seven of Tech’s 10 in the opening set.
Set 2 (GT 21 – LOU 25)
Both teams improved their offensive efficiency in the second set, with Louisville recording a .485 attack percentage and 19 kills compared to Tech’s .310 attack percentage and 13 kills. The Jackets fell behind after the Cardinals opened a six-point scoring run, prompting a Tech timeout with Louisville leading 16-10. Despite a late offensive push highlighted by a three-point run, Tech dropped the second set, 25-21. Bennour and Heard paced the Jackets offensively with four kills apiece. Mendes also delivered a solid performance, recording three kills on five swings. Kaneko collected five digs, leading both teams in the set and accounting for half of her 10-dig match total. Soares added seven assists, while Mendes contributed three and Kaneko recorded two.
Set 3 (GT 25 – LOU 27)
Tech’s final-set performance matched Louisville defensively with two blocks while maintaining its offensive efficiency and limiting errors. However, the Cardinals’ 17 kills and .344 attack percentage proved enough to secure the 27-25 set victory and complete the sweep. Louisville established an early five-point lead, prompting Tech’s first timeout of the set with the Cardinals ahead 11-6. The Jackets found their rhythm as the set progressed, with a Bennour-Humphrey block tying the score at 19-19 just before Louisville called a timeout. Tech later took a 23-22 lead, but the Cardinals closed out the set by outscoring the Jackets 5-2. Bennour led Tech with seven kills in the final set and added a block. Bieleski supported the offense with three kills, while Soares and Humphrey contributed two apiece. Soares recorded 11 assists in the final frame, with Kaneko adding three.
