Bennour Earns a Pair of ACC Weekly Honors
The freshman collects Tech's first Offensive Player of the Week Honor of the season along with her third Freshman of the Week honor.
The Offensive Player of the Week honor is the first of Bennour’s career, while the Freshman of the Week honor marks her third. She becomes the first Yellow Jacket to earn ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors since Tamara Otene in 2024. Bennour is also the first Yellow Jacket to earn multiple Freshman of the Week honors since Heloise Soares and Larissa Mendes each accomplished the feat during the 2023 season. Additionally, she is the first Yellow Jacket to earn both Freshman of the Week and Offensive Player of the Week honors since at least 2018.
Bennour’s weekly honors come after she helped Tech split its two matches last week, leading the Jackets to a reverse-sweep victory over Notre Dame with more than 30 kills before posting 17 kills against No. 3 Louisville. She opened the week with career highs of 33 kills, 71 attacks and 16 digs while tying her career high with seven blocks against Notre Dame. With 33 kills and 16 digs, Bennour recorded her fifth career double-double. Her 33 kills marked the first time a Yellow Jacket recorded 30 or more kills in a single match since Julia Bergmann accomplished the feat twice during the 2022 season. Friday’s performance also marked the third time a Tech player has recorded 30 or more kills against Notre Dame. Kerry Annel first accomplished the feat with 33 kills in 1995, while Bergmann reached the mark in 2021.
Bennour extended her streak of double-digit kill performances to 10 consecutive matches, leading Tech’s offense with 17 kills against the Cardinals. She is responsible for nine of Tech’s top 10 single-match kill totals this season, with Magda Kobaidze tied for 10th after recording 16 kills against Campbell. Bennour’s 17 kills on Sunday tied for the second-most by a Yellow Jacket in a three-set match this season, matching her performance against Boston College.
