THE FLATS – Georgia Tech volleyball (11-4, 3-1 ACC) will continue ACC play on Sunday afternoon against Miami (7-3, 2-0 ACC) in Coral Gables, Fla.
Storylines
- The Yellow Jackets most recently hit the road for their first dose of road conference matches this season, resulting in a sweep against Duke on Friday and a five-set loss to No. 25 North Carolina.
- Against the Blue Devils, five Yellow Jackets recorded double-digit kills, marking the first time in 11 years Tech volleyball has done so.
- The last time the Jackets saw five players reach double figures was in Tech’s five-set win over Wake Forest in 2015 (Annika Van Gunst (15), Teegan Van Gunst (14), Sydney Wilson (13), Lauren Pitz (10) and Ashley Askin (10).
- Alida Bennour saw her 10th match of the season recording double-digit kills as she contributed 13 to Tech’s 60 kills against the Blue Devils.
- Sophomore Zoe Humphrey not only saw her first double-digit kill match as a Yellow Jacket but tied her career high for kills with 10 on Friday night.
- Heloise Soares earned her 17th career double-double, fourth double-double of the season, with a season high 48 assists and 10 digs.
- The senior’s 48 assists marked her 19th career match recording 40 or more assists as a Yellow Jacket.
- Friday saw Tech record the second-best attack percentage in a four-set conference match so far this season (.302) wile also recording the most kills (60) and the most assists (57) in a four-set conference match so far this season.
- Despite dropping the Sunday match, Bennour saw her 11th match of the season with double-digit kills. Bennour’s 16 kills were accompanied by 11 digs, marking the freshman’s fifth double-double of the season.
- Across Tech’s four ACC matches, Bennour has recorded 55 kills, averaging 3.67 kills per set.
- Laura Bieleski assisted Bennour with Tech’s offensive push with 14 kills, marking her eighth double-digit kill match of the season.
- Bieleski’s 14 kills were paired with 12 digs, earning the sophomore her fifth double-double of the season. After recording double-doubles on Friday and Sunday, Bieleski recorded double-doubles in consecutive matches for the first time in her career.
- Defensively, Bieleski was a standout performer, recording career highs in both solo blocks (2) and total blocks (5).
- Zoe Humphrey tied her career high with 10 kills for the second time this season, matching the mark she set Friday against Duke.
- The sophomore was also exceptional at the net against the Tar Heels, recording a career-high five solo blocks.
- Tech’s nine aces and 18 blocks were also a new conference high in both categories for five-set ACC matches this season.
- Amongst ACC competitors, Tech is first for opponent digs (10.37), second for aces (108; 2.04/ set), second for opponent kills (619; 11.46/ set), fourth for points (954.5; 17.68/ set), and fifth for assists (671; 12.43/ set).
- The Jackets continue to receive votes in the weekly AVCA poll, despite still remaining outside the top-25 rankings.
Series Notes
- Tech enters Sunday’s match trailing the overall series against Miami, 22-13, as well as a 10-8 losing record in true road matches.
- The Jackets enter the contest looking for their first win over the Hurricanes since 2021.
