TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Georgia Tech cross country teams secured top-five team finishes across both races at the Crimson Classic on Friday morning.
The morning opened with the 8k race as Taylor Wade looked to compete against some of the best runners in the nation. Wade crossed the line with a 23:57.1, claiming seventh overall and the highest-placed runner outside of No. 4 Alabama’s runners. Wade was the highest placed Yellow Jacket in all four of the men’s races this season.
Alexander Arrambide and Joey Sandel made up the next Tech runners, placing 15th and 16th overall and clocking in at 24:34.9 and 24:37.4, respectively. Matt Castronuovo finished 19th as Wyatt Windham rounded out the Tech top-five with a 23rd-place finish to mark another meet with at least five Yellow Jackets in the top-25.
Lottie Chappell and Claire Shelton once again spearheaded the Tech lineup throughout the race as Shelton held steady inside the top-20 as Chappell worked her way through the field. Chappell was the first Tech runner across the line at 20:23.5 to secure 14th overall. Shelton finished a few seconds behind in 17th at 20:28.4
Stella Chambless recorded her first career time under 21 minutes to notch 30th with Sadie Honig securing a top-50 finish in 48th place. Freshman Annie Lewis was the final scoring runner for Tech as she placed 73rd overall.
Both teams locked down top-five positions in the event for a second straight season as the men finished second overall with 70 points behind No. 4 Alabama as the women placed fourth with 160 points. Both teams improved one place from last season’s race.
All top-five 6k runners for Tech set either personal or season-best times; six total personal bests were in the 6k. Cooper Timberman ran his personal best in the 8k at 25:43.0.
Georgia Tech concludes the regular season and looks ahead to the ACC Championships on Friday, October 30 from Buford Meredith Cross Country Course in Blacksburg, Virginia.
