No. 22 Golf Opens Fall Season at Folds of Honor Collegiate

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech golf makes its debut under first-year head coach Ryan Hybl this week, opening the fall slate at the Folds of Honor Collegiate. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will be held September 7-9 at American Dunes Golf Club in Grand Haven, Mich.

Georgia Tech’s lineup features three new faces for the tournament as the Yellow Jackets welcomed back senior Kale Fontenot (Lafayette, La.) and junior Albert Hansson (Fiskebäckskil, Sweden) from last year’s squad that made its 28^th-consecutive NCAA Regionals appearance. Joining Tech’s roster for the fall-opener are newcomers senior Andrew Ferworn (Houston, Texas), junior Carson Baez (Davenport, Fla.) and freshman Max Emberson (Thousand Oaks, Calif.). Hybl jumped right into action when hired and added seven newcomers to the 2026-27 roster, including four transfers.

The Yellow Jackets enter the fall season ranked in three preseason polls, coming in at No. 22 in the Golfweek’s preseason rankings, No. 25 in the preseason Bushnell/Golfweek DI Coaches Poll and No. 26 in Golf Channel’s Top 30.

The 2026 Folds of Honor Collegiate, hosted in partnership with Folds of Honor and Michigan State, has teams playing for a larger purpose as Folds of Honor’s mission is to provide life-changing educational scholarships to the spouses and children of America’s fallen or disabled military service members and first responders. The fifth installment of the tournament features a 15-team men’s field and 12-team women’s field. Joining in on the men’s side are Air Force, Alabama (defending champion), Army, Cincinnati, Florida A&M, Florida State, Grand Valley State, Kansas, Michigan State, Navy, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Texas.

The Yellow Jackets are making their first appearance in the tournament and will tee off beginning at 12:45 pm with Michigan State and Northwestern. Fans will be able to catch the tournament live on Golf Channel each day of the tournament with the following broadcast times:

TECH LINEUP – After a competitive qualifying circuit, Tech’s lineup for the fall opener will be Hansson, Emberson, Baez, Ferworn and Fontenot. Hansson captured an individual title last season, taking home the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational crown in a playoff, while Fontenot was a steady component to Tech’s lineup, appearing in all 11 events for the Yellow Jackets.

Emberson comes into his first collegiate event off a strong amateur circuit this summer where he reached the championship match of the 2026 California Amateur Championship in June. The 2025 Southern California Junior Amateur champion, Emberson came to Tech a highly-ranked recruit out of California.

One of Tech’s two transfers in its lineup, Baez played his first two seasons at the University of Richmond before joining the Yellow Jackets’ squad. An all-Atlantic 10 Conference selection, Baez helped Richmond to the 2026 Atlantic 10 Championship title and compiled a 71.20 career stroke average while a Spider.

Ferworn joined the Jackets after three seasons at North Alabama, where he was a 2026 all-ASUN first team selection after earning an individual bid to the NCAA Regionals. The Houston, Texas native also earned 2025 all-ASUN third team honors and was tabbed to the all-freshman team in 2023.

TOURNAMENT INFORMATION – The Folds of Honor Collegiate is being held for the fifth time with Georgia Tech making its debut appearance. Michigan State, Florida State, Golf Coaches Association of America and HNS Sports Group are host partners with Folds of Honor for the annual event. No. 12 Texas, No. 16 Alabama, No. 17 Florida State and No. 28 Notre Dame join the No. 22 Yellow Jackets in a variety of preseason polls. Alabama returns as the 2025 Folds of Honor Collegiate champions, while Alabama’s William Jennings took home the individual title.
