SET BY SET
Set 1 (GT 25 – USI 19)
- After taking the 3-2 lead early in set one, the Yellow Jackets were able to fend off the Screaming Eagles offense through to the 25-19 set one win. Garibaldi was unstoppable on offense as she recorded six kills on six swings. Kobaidze contributed five kills to Tech’s 16 kill-set one total. Soares began the day with 14 assists and an exceptional .560 assist percentage. Kaneko led the group in digs with three with Bennour and Humphrey shared one block.
Set 2 (GT 25 – USI 20)
- Tech went on to establish a staggering six-point lead early into set one before Southern Indiana called their first timeout. The Screaming Eagles were able to fight back enough to bring the set within two points, but the Jackets would go on to outscore the visitors 6-3 to take the second step. Set two saw a share of the work across the Jackets offense with Bennour leading the tram with four kills alongside Humphrey and Kobaidze with three respectively. Soares added another 10 assists with yet another above .500 assist percentage (.526). Tech’s defense was nothing short of a power house display with Humphrey, Bennour, and Garibaldi all recording two block assists apiece.
Set 3 (GT 26 – USI 24)
- Set three Tech proved to be the most evenly matched set with the Jackets maintain the edge over Southern Indiana. The Screaming Eagles took the 11-7 lead before Tech called a timeout. Immediately following the timeout, the Jackets posted five of the next six points to tie the match 12-12 and force a Southern Indiana timeout. Both teams continued to trade points with USI leading 24-23 until a pair of kills from Bennour and an attack error from the Screaming Eagles ended the game. Bennour stood alone offensively with seven of Tech’s 15 set three kills. Soares capped the day with an additional 11 assists. Kaneko and Bennour saw three final digs while Humphrey and Kobaidze teamed up for one final put down.
