THE FLATS – As it prepares to welcome 50,000-plus fans to The Flats for its first home event of the 2026-27 academic year, Georgia Tech athletics has unveiled its new five-year strategic plan, which will serve as a roadmap for the Yellow Jackets’ priorities and objectives through 2031.
Spearheaded by Ryan Alpert in the first 100 days following his appointment as vice president and director of athletics in July 2025, Tech athletics’ strategic plan reflects input from student-athletes, coaches, athletics department staff, campus partners, students, alumni, trustees and donors over the course of the year-long project.
The strategic plan includes the introduction of a new motto for Georgia Tech athletics:
Engineering Excellence in All Aspects of College Athletics
Leaning into what makes Georgia Tech different, the plan is centered on five pillars:
- Academic Excellence
- Competitive Excellence
- Revenue Generation
- Brand Advancement
- Culture of Excellence
The plan outlines priorities within each pillar and sets a blueprint for the application of those priorities to be assessed through annual objectives, investments and measurable outcomes.
“Our strategic plan is not something that we’ve done to check a box and stick in a drawer. It will serve as a guide to everything we do over the next five years,” Alpert said. “Student-athletes are at the center of the plan, in which academic achievement will remain the principal tenet, championship-level competitive success is a central ambition and sustainable financial growth will fuel our vision. We’re grateful to all of the stakeholders that poured their time, energy and passion into this project, and we’re looking forward to engineering excellence together over the next five years.”

Full Steam Ahead
Full Steam Ahead is a $500 million fundraising initiative to achieve Georgia Tech athletics’ goal of competing for championships at the highest level in the next era of intercollegiate athletics. The initiative will fund transformative projects for Tech athletics, including renovations of Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field (the historic home of Georgia Tech football), the Zelnak Basketball Center (the practice and training facility for Tech basketball) and O’Keefe Gymnasium (the venerable home of Yellow Jackets volleyball), as well as additional projects and initiatives to further advance Georgia Tech athletics through program wide-operational support.
