Jackets Tied for 11th at Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational

FORT WORTH, TEXAS – Carson Baez highlighted the opening two rounds at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational presented by Charles Schwab on Monday, firing a hole-in-one, as the Yellow Jackets stand in a tie for 11^th after 36 holes. The two-day tournament is being contested at the Colonial Country Club.

The Yellow Jackets combined for a team total 16-over-par 576 and is tied with Georgia in 11^th. Auburn leads the team standings at 6-under-par 554 and holds a two-stroke lead over Alabama and North Carolina in second place (556, -4).

The final round of competition will take place on Tuesday. Georgia Tech will tee off hole 10 beginning at 8:48 a.m. with Andrew Ferworn.    

TECH LINEUP – Following two rounds on Monday, senior Kale Fontenot (Lafayette, La.) leads the Yellow Jackets in a tie for 18^th place. Fontenot posted consecutive rounds of 1-over-par 71s to finish the day at 2-over-par 142 after closing the second round with two birdies on his final three holes.

Max Emberson (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) came away with a 4-over-par 144 showing after 36 holes with two rounds of 2-over-par. The freshman is tied for 38^th.

Albert Hansson (Fiskebäckskil, Sweden) sits right behind Emberson, tied for 45^th as the Jacket stands at 5-over-par 145. Hansson opened the morning with a 2-over-par 72 and followed with a 3-over-par 73 in the afternoon.

Baez (Davenport, Fla.) was the only golfer on the day to own a hole-in-one as the junior sank his first shot on hole No. 8 in the second round. At 7-over-par through two rounds, Baez is tied for 54^th entering the final round of play.

Andrew Ferworn (Houston, Texas) wraps up Tech’s lineup in a tie for 73^rd at 10-over-par.

TEAM LEADERBOARD – Auburn enters the final round of competition in the lead with a two-round total of 6-under-par 554. However, Alabama and North Carolina are just two strokes off the Tigers at 4-under-par 556.

Vanderbilt rounds out the four teams to finish under-par after 36 holes, sitting in fourth at 2-under-par 558. Texas is in fifth (563, +3), followed by Texas Tech (567, +7), TCU (570, +10), UCLA (573, +13), Oklahoma State (574, +14) and Oklahoma (575, +15) to complete the top-10.        

INDIVIDUAL LEADERBOARD – Four golfers share the individual lead after day one as Niall Sheils Donegan (UNC), Billy Davis (Auburn), Jon Ed Steed (Vanderbilt) and Adam Bresnu (Texas Tech) sit at 4-under-par 136. The quartet hold a narrow one-stroke lead over William Jennings (Alabama) and JD Culbreth (Georgia), who are tied for 5^th at 3-under-par.

There is a three-way tie for seventh at 2-under-par, while another two golfers are tied for 10^th at 1-under-par. Only 11 golfers finished the first two rounds under par in the field of 80.   

TOURNAMENT INFORMATION – Georgia Tech is competing in the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational for the fifth time with finishes of 12^th (2022), 8^th (2023), 8^th (2024) and 7^th (2025) previously. Christo Lamprecht earned a share of the individual title two seasons ago.

TCU serves as host for the prestigious event, which is contested at the Colonial Country Club (annual host to the Charles Schwab Challenge on the PGA Tour). It plays a par 70 and measures 7,289 yards. In its ninth rendition, the individual winner will receive exemption to play in the 2027 Charles Schwab Challenge. Last year, Virginia, North Carolina and Vanderbilt finished in a three-way tie for first in the team standings.
