THE FLATS – Senior divers Max Fowler and Lizzie Powley swept the first edition of the 2026-27 ACC weekly awards following personal-best performances on the springboards on Saturday. This marks the second Tech sweep across the conference’s weekly diving awards in the last three editions.
Fowler opened his 2026-27 account in resounding fashion as he dominated both the 1-meter and 3-meter sessions with final scores of 419.18 in the 1-meter and 421.58 in the 3-meter event. He finished over 100 points clear of the next diver in the 1-meter session and 50 points ahead of Elijah Klier in the 3-meter event.
419.18 now stands as the program’s top 1-meter session score, surpassing his own record of 410.25 set during his second-place performance at the 2026 ACC Championships. He scored three 75+ point dives, with all six attempts scoring 50 or more. The 2026 ACC Diver of the Meet leads the nation in both springboard categories through the first week of collegiate competition.
With this week’s honor, Fowler has now reached double digits and claimed his 10th career ACC Men’s Diver of the Week award. He has earned the honor in all four seasons of competition and remains one of the most accomplished divers in the conference.
Powley strung together her best 1-meter performance of her career in the opening meet of the season, scoring four 50+ point dives headlined by her forward 2 1/2 somersault pike. She finished atop the standings and broke past the 300-point mark for the first time in a 1-meter session with a 306.53.
The senior also enjoyed a strong 3-meter session scoring 311.78 to place second to Melina Michaelides and was just 6.22 points away from her career best.
She became just the ninth Tech diver in program history to eclipse 300 points and secured the seventh-highest score on Tech’s all-time leaderboard. Powley is also now just one of four divers to hold top-10 program marks in all three diving disciplines.
The two divers will compete at the Seminole Fall Classic from October 9-10 in Tallahassee, Florida, before the Jackets host their second-annual Dual Meet Tournament from October 16-17.
