Bennour Collects Second ACC Weekly Honor

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech volleyball (10-3, 2-0 ACC) brought home its second ACC weekly honor of the season as right side Alida Bennour was named ACC Freshman of the Week for the second time, as was announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.

Bennour’s weekly honor comes after the freshman helped Tech see a flawless ACC opening weekend with sweeps of Virginia Tech and Virginia. Sunday’s match against Virginia saw Bennour tie her career high for kills (21) previously set in the five-set match against UgA. Her 21 kills on 34 swings with two errors were also enough for a new career best attack percentage. (.559) and marked the third best attack percentage for a Yellow Jacket this season. The Algerian is the first Yellow Jacket since Julia Bergmann (2022) to record 20+ kills in a three-set match. With three aces Sunday, Bennour has recorded multiple aces in eight of Tech’s 13 total matches. Bennour has also seen double-digit kills in nine of Tech’s 13 contests this season.

She finished the opening week of conference play averaging 4.33 kills per set with a .438 attack percentage along with one assist, seven aces, 17 digs, and six total blocks. Alongside leading the Jackets in kills (161), Bennour is ninth in the ACC for kills, averaging 3.58 kills per set. Bennour is also second in the ACC for service aces with 28 total, averaging .62 aces per set.

The Yellow Jackets will gear up for another four-match road stand this time against ACC opponents starting with Duke on Oct. 2 and No. 24 North Carolina Oct. 4.
