THE FLATS – Coming off another strong showing last week, No. 9 Georgia Tech golf is back in action at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational presented by Charles Schwab this week at Colonial Country Club. TCU serves as host to the two-day tournament in Fort Worth, Texas.
Georgia Tech returns to action off an eighth-place finish at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational last week. Freshman Max Emberson continued his impressive collegiate debut, claiming a share of the individual title to make it back-to-back individual wins for the Thousand Oaks, Calif., native. This season, the Yellow Jackets have opened the competition slate with a tournament win and two top-10 team finishes.
A stacked 16-team field will compete for the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational title at the par 70 course. Of the 16 teams, 14 programs are ranked in the top 23, including nine ranked in the top 12. Joining Georgia Tech in the field are Alabama (11), Arizona State (3), Auburn (1), Georgia (12), North Carolina (14), Oklahoma (18), Oklahoma State (2), Pepperdine (21), Stanford (20), TCU, Texas (8), Texas Tech (8), UCLA (23), Vanderbilt (10) and Virginia.
Last season, Georgia Tech’s Albert Hansson took home the individual Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational crown, winning in a playoff for his first collegiate victory. Hansson became the second Yellow Jacket to win the tournament in Tech’s four appearances since 2022. Hansson finished in a five-way tie for first place, forcing a playoff, and won the title on the first hole. As a team, Tech finished seventh with a team total of 854 (+14).
The tournament’s first two rounds will be played on Monday with a shotgun start at 9:15 a.m. ET. Tuesday’s third round will have teams going off holes No. 1 and No. 10 with tee times as early at 9 a.m. ET. The winner of the tournament will receive an exemption into the 2027 Charles Schwab Challenge.
TECH LINEUP – Georgia Tech will take a familiar lineup to the Lonestar State led by Emberson, Hansson, Carson Baez, Andrew Ferworn and Kale Fontenot.
Emberson has earned two starts in his freshman campaign and taken home two wins. With a 66.50 season stroke average, the Yellow Jackets enters the Ben Hogan looking to continue his impressive debut. Hansson comes into the tournament the reigning individual champion, seeking his second collegiate tournament victory. Hansson turned in a 1-under-par 209 for the tournament and was one of only five players in the tournament to finish under par.
Baez is coming off a tie for 50th at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational, while Ferworn tied for 57th. Fontenot carded his best finish at the season-opener and finished 77th last week.
TOURNAMENT INFORMATION – Georgia Tech is competing in the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational for the fifth time with finishes of 12th (2022), 8th (2023), 8th (2024) and 7th (2025) previously. Christo Lamprecht earned a share of the individual title two seasons ago.
TCU serves as host for the prestigious event, which is contested at the Colonial Country Club (annual host to the Charles Schwab Challenge on the PGA Tour). It plays a par 70 and measures 7,289 yards. In its ninth rendition, the individual winner will receive exemption to play in the 2027 Charles Schwab Challenge. Last year, Virginia, North Carolina and Vanderbilt finished in a three-way tie for first in the team standings.
