Volleyball Alumnae Collect Hardware in the South American Championships

THE FLATS –  Georgia Tech volleyball saw three alumni continue achieve greatness following their departure from The Flats as Julia Bergmann, Bianca Bertolino, and Sofia Velez all earned medals in the 2026 South American Championships.

Bergman took the gold with Brazil after sweeping fellow former Yellow Jacket Bertolino and Argentina in the championship. With the win, Bergmann and Brazil have now qualified for the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Olympics.  Bergmann and Bertolino met in the final where Bergmann showed out with 11 kills on 13 swings for an astounding .846 attack percentage along with one block. Bertolino recorded nine kills on 27 attacks and one block as well. Velez and the Columbian national team took home the bronze. 

UP NEXT

Tech volleyball is back in action this week to conclude their four-match road stand against UgA on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. in Athens, Ga. The match is set to be streamed on SECN+.

2026 McCamish Matches

Tech volleyball’s annual McCamish Match is set to return with twice the action as the Yellow Jackets will take on No. 2 Pitt and No. 5 SMU. Tickets are priced as follows for the ranked matches:

Full Steam Ahead
