Bennour Earns First Career ACC Honor

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech volleyball brought home its first ACC honor of the week as right side Alida Bennour was named ACC Freshman of the Week as was announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.

Bennour arrived on The Flats and has immediately been an impact player on offense for the Jackets, leading Tech in six of 10 matches played so far. The freshman spent last week recording a combined 50 kills, averaging 3.57 kills per set along with eight aces, 14 digs, and six block assists across four matches. She began the week with her second-most kills in a match this season against Oklahoma (16) on Tuesday night before beginning the Ameritas Players Challenge hosted by Nebraska with four kills, one ace, two digs, and two block assists against No. 20 Baylor. Bennour went on to record 14 kills against New Mexico with a .417 attack percentage accompanied by three aces, five digs and one block. Her week concluded with another 16 kills this time against No. 1 Nebraska on Saturday.

With her 50-kill week, Bennour surpassed 100 kills after the first three weeks of the season. She also leads the Jackets in aces (19) and sits third on the team for total blocks (27). Bennour’s team-leading 19 aces rank her third in the ACC while her 126 points, 4.20 points per set is also in the conference’s top-10 ranks (9).

Tech volleyball is back in action this week to conclude their four-match road stand against UgA on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. in Athens, Ga. The match is set to be streamed on SECN+.
