Jackets Earn First Singles Wins of the Fall

All six Tech players claimed singles wins in the opener

THE FLATS - The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team opened its 2026 fall campaign with victories in singles play for all six Yellow Jackets on Friday from the Grizzly Invite.

Tech opened the season with the morning doubles session with the senior duo of Owen DeMuth and Elias Shokry  notching a 7-5 doubles victory over the Georgia State pairing. The additional two Tech doubles teams dropped their one-set matches.

In singles play, the Jackets went straight to work as senior Richard Biagiotti locked down a convincing 6-2, 6-2 win as fellow senior Jonathan Irwanto dealt a 6-4, 6-3 result to his first opponent of the day. Biagiotti secured his second win after his opponent retired from a 6-3, 3-0 scoreline.

Shokry bounced back from his first match with a 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (6) result to earn his first win of the season. DeMuth was dominant in his side of the draw with two singles victories and conceding only six games across three complete sets of action.

Freshmen Lucas Yunez and Mason Taube made their collegiate debuts and both won their first singles matches in three sets. Taube’s second match was left unfinished after weather postponed his battle in the black draw.

Saturday will feature two rounds of doubles play before one final slate of singles matches. Doubles will begin at 9 a.m. before singles play is slated for noon.
