Christo Lamprecht Wins Inverness Intercollegiate

Toledo, Ohio – Christo Lamprecht earned his first collegiate victory Tuesday, firing a final-round 72 (+1) to complete a two-stroke triumph at the Inverness Intercollegiate. Sixth-ranked Georgia Tech posted a 3-over-par 287 in the final round to finish as the runner-up in the team race.

Lamprecht had taken a three-shot lead in the tournament after 36 holes with rounds of 67-67 (-8) before holding on to win in round 3. The native of George, South Africa broke through for his first collegiate medal in his 23^rd career start, having twice previously finished as runner-up last year, at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate and the Southern Highlands Collegiate. He has 11 top-10 finishes in just over three years of college competition.

Tech turns around quickly for its next tournament, traveling to Fort Worth, Texas for the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational next Monday and Tuesday at Colonial Country Club.

ROUND 3 RECAP – Senior Connor Howe shot a 1-under-par 70, and junior Aidan Kramer posted his second consecutive even-par 71 to lead Tech in the final round. Lamprecht closed out his personal victory with a 72 and freshman Hiroshi Tai added a 74 (+3) as the Yellow Jackets posted a 3-over-par 287.

Howe finished the tournament alone in 14^th place at 4-over-par 217, while Tai tied for 20^th place at 219 (+6). Kramer tied for 38^th place at 222 (+9), while sophomore Benjamin Reuter finished in a tie for 78^th at 233 (+20).

ROUND 2 RECAP – Lamprecht’s second consecutive 67 and an even-par 71s from Tai and Kramer paced the Yellow Jackets to a team score of 285 (+1) in the completion of round 2 Tuesday morning. Reuter’s 76 (+5) was Tech’s fourth counting score.

TEAM LEADERBOARD – No. 8 Texas Tech made a surge in the second half of Tuesday’s final round and posted a 3-under-par round of 281, finishing the tournament at 1-over-par 853 and earning a six-stroke victory over No. 6 Georgia Tech, which finished 54 holes at 859 (+7). Three Red Raiders placed in the top 10 individually.

No. 4 Oklahoma finished third at 863 (+11), followed by Virginia at 864 (+12) in fourth place. Louisville and No. 20 Notre Dame tied for fifth place at 873 (+21).

INDIVIDUAL LEADERBOARD – Lamprecht trailed by one stroke after his opening 67, but once he assumed the lead, he never surrendered it, holding off challenges Tuesday afternoon from Texas Tech’s Calum Scott (71) and Virginia freshman Ben James (68). Lamprecht carded a 54-hole total of 206 (-7), two strokes clear of Scott (208, -5). James and Maxwell Moldovan of Ohio State tied for third at 211 (-2).

Ludvig Aberg of Texas Tech and Taichi Kho of Notre Dame tied for fifth at even-par 213.
