Softball Hires Alysen Febrey as Volunteer Coach

THE FLATS – Alysen Febrey has been named volunteer coach for Georgia Tech softball, coach Aileen Morales announced on Tuesday. Febrey comes to The Flats on the heels of a decorated playing career as she laced up for her final collegiate season at Oklahoma State in 2021. The first-time coach will make her way to The Flats following her competition in the Athletes Unlimited Pro Summer League, running through August.

“We’re extremely excited to welcome Alysen to our staff,” said Morales. “She brings a wealth of experience at the highest level, and we can’t wait for her to further implement that into our culture. Alysen is a welcomed addition and aligns with our vision for the future as we continue to build on our program.”

A native of Peachtree City, Ga., Febrey returns home to join the Yellow Jackets following back-to-back all-American campaigns for the Cowgirls. In 2021, the first baseman was named a first-team all-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association after leading Oklahoma State’s bats. Other accolades Febrey garnered for her efforts in her final season included first team all-region by the NFCA, second team all-Big 12 and all-academic Big 12. The year prior, Febrey was named a first team all-American by Softball America (2020) despite the abbreviated season due to Covid-19.

Febrey rewrote the Cowgirl record books during her two seasons in Stillwater, Okla., landing in Oklahoma State’s top 10 in 15 different all-time categories between single-season and career records. Most notably, the former all-American owns the highest career slugging percentage (.826) in Cowgirl history and is Oklahoma State’s all-time leader in total bases in a single season (145). Her plethora of career records include ranking fourth in batting average (.395), sixth in on-base percentage (.454), fifth in home runs (29) and eighth in double plays (29). In a single season alone, Febrey has placed herself third in home runs (18), second in slugging percentage (.784), third in RBI (60), fourth in doubles (17), first in total bases (145), sixth in hits (74), 10^th in batting average (.400), fourth in double plays turned (18), second in sacrifice flies (five) and holds the ninth longest hitting streak in consecutive at bats (12). Febrey’s power was a regular threat as she belted a grand slam and had multiple home runs in four separate games. The all-American had a propensity for getting hot as she reached base for 16 games straight while racking up 26 multi-hit games and 16 multi-RBI games, on top of tallying six RBI in a single game, tying for sixth in program history.

Over the course of her career, the former Cowgirl batted .354 in 245 starts with 255 hits, 61 doubles, three triples and 50 home runs for 198 RBI and 135 runs scored. The gaudy totals resulted in a .656 slugging percentage and a .420 on-base percentage as she also stole 16 bases.

Febrey batted an even .400 in her final season, starting in all 60 games as she led the Cowgirls to the 2021 Women’s College World Series and an opening 3-2 win over Georgia. Tech’s new staffer filled up the stat sheet in her collegiate swan song, totaling 74 hits, 17 doubles and 18 home runs for 60 RBI and 34 runs scored. Febrey also averaged a .784 slugging percentage and a .445 on-base percentage while swiping three bags. On top of leading her team in hits, doubles, RBI and total bases, her marks in home runs, slugging percentage and on-base percentage ranked second on her squad. Amongst the national ranks, Febrey landed in the top 20 in hits, doubles, home runs, RBI and total bases, notably finishing sixth in the country and fourth in the Big 12 in RBI while placing ninth in the land and fifth in the Big 12 in total bases.

In a shortened season due to Covid-19, Febrey started all 24 games at first base in her first season at Oklahoma State. The incoming Yellow Jacket went on to record a team-leading .382 batting average, 11 home runs and 32 RBI on the year. On a national scale, her home-run mark ranked fourth in the NCAA and led the Big 12. The former Cowgirl also led the Big 12 in RBI and total bases, placing 10th in the country and second in the Big 12 in slugging percentage.

Febrey began her career at Georgia, where she put together a successful career as a two-time all-region player and three-year starter beginning with her freshman season. A three-time honor roll member of the SEC, Febrey earned her bachelor’s degree in consumer economics from Georgia in 2019. She went on to achieve her master’s degree in retail merchandising leadership from Oklahoma State in 2021.
