Jackets Season Ends at NCAAs

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Georgia Tech men’s tennis concluded NCAA tournament play on Tuesday with loses in the singles and doubles bracket.

In the singles match Andres Martin took on Arthur Fery of Stanford. Set one was a set of trading serves for the first six games including Martin’s second serve where he didn’t give up a point. Knotted up at three, Martin’s next two serves were broken to give Fery the set win.

Martin kept digging and pulled out a pivotal second set where he flipped the script. After trading serves for the first four games, Martin broke his opponents serve twice to take the 6-2 set win.

The third set would be another one of trading serves to start the match before Martin would have his serve broken and ultimately lose the set, losing the match, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.

Martin was back on the court for doubles play with Marcus McDaniel against Barki/Seggerman of Princeton. Martin/McDaniel would fall behind early, having their first serve broken in the first set. They fought back and pulled off a perfect game in their second serve before falling behind 2-4 in the first set. They would lose two deuce points to drop the first set 6-2.

The second set started with a determination with Martin/McDaniel breaking their opponents serve on another perfect game to take the early 2-0 lead.

The sides would trade serves before Martin/McDaniel would reel off four straight game wins including a perfect final game to securing the 6-1 set win.

Going into the tiebreaker set, Martin/McDaniel jumped out to an early 2-0 lead but would fall behind off of a 6-1 run by their opponents. The duo would tie it back at seven before ultimately falling 10-7.

Martin will play again in Atlanta at the Atlanta Open on July 26. Martin received a wildcard bid to the Atlanta Open and will play in the main draw.
