Tech Golf Tied for 4th at The Goodwin

Stanford, Calif. – Christo Lamprecht fired a 3-under-par 67, and Bartley Forrester added a 2-under 68, leading No. 11 Georgia Tech to a 3-under-par total of 277 Friday and a tie for fourth place after 36 holes at The Goodwin.

While host and 14^th-ranked Stanford (540, -20) opened a seven-stroke lead on the field after Friday’s round at the Stanford Golf Course, the next five teams on the leaderboard are within three strokes of each other – SMU and Nevada tied for second at 547 (-13), Tech and No. 9 Washington are tied for fourth at 548 (-12), and Brigham Young in sixth at 550 (-10).

Tech will be paired with BYU and UC Davis for Saturday’s final round beginning at 3:10 p.m. Eastern time from the first tee.

TECH LINEUP – Starting on the 10^th tee Friday, Tech played 4-under-par over its first nine holes at the par-70 Stanford course, recording just two bogeys from its four counting players, to move to the top of the leaderboard, but was unable to sustain that momentum on the front nine.

Lamprecht played bogey-free golf for his first 12 holes, recording three birdies, bogeyed two of his next three, then closed with two birdies on his final three holes to post his 67. The sophomore from George, South Africa is tied for 14^th place individually at 5-under-par 135. Forrester continued his fine spring by playing the back nine 2-under-par and the front even for his 68. The junior from Gainesville, Ga., who is 17-under-par collectively over 11 rounds this spring, is tied for 10th place at 134 (-6), three shots off the lead.

Senior Ben Smith (Novi, Mich.) followed his opening 69 with a 70 for the Jackets Saturday, and is tied for 40^th place at 139 (-1). Junior Connor Howe (Ogden, Utah) provided Tech’s fourth counting score with a 2-over-par 72, and is tied for 52^nd through 36 holes at even-par 140.

Tech tossed out a 4-over 74 from freshman Benjamin Reuter (Naarden, The Netherlands) Friday, while junior Andy Mao (Johns Creek, Ga.), competing as an individual, shot 72. Both players have a 36-hole score of 145 (+5).

TEAM LEADERBOARD – Behind a 65 from Michael Thorjornsen and a 66 from individual leader Karl Vilips, the host team Stanford posted an 8-under-par score of 272 Friday, opening a seven-shot lead with a 36-hole total of 540 (-20).

SMU, starting the day in second place, shot 3-under-par 277 Friday and has a share of that position with Nevada, who shot 5-under-par 275. Their 36-hole score is 547 (-13). Tech and No. 9 Washington (548, -12) began the day tied and remained that way after each team carded a 3-under-par round of 277.

BYU holds sixth place alone at 550 (-10), followed by UC Davis (552, -8), which shot the day’s low team round of 271 (-9), Northwestern (554, -6) and Colorado (555, -5).

INDIVIDUAL LEADERBOARD – UC Davis sophomore Lucas Carper (65 Friday) , Stanford sophomore Karl Vilips (66) are tied at the top of the leaderboard with 9-under-par score of 131.

Cal’s Sampson Zheng (66), BYU’s Carson Lundell (66) and Nevada’s Peyton Callens (67) are tied for fourth at 132 (-8), while there is a four-way tie for sixth place at 133 (-7) between Stanford’s Michael Thorbjornsen, Little Rock’s Anton Albers, Washington’s Noah Woolsey and UCLA’s Pablo Ereno.

Tech’s Bartley Forrester is tied for 10th with three other players at 134 (-6), while the Jackets’ Christo Lamprecht is in a five-way tie for 13^th at 135 (-5).

TOURNAMENT INFORMATION – This is Georgia Tech’s second appearance at The Goodwin, named for legendary Cardinal head coach and the third time Yellow Jackets have played an event at the Stanford Golf Course (6,732 yards, par 70), having competed in an NCAA regional tournament there in 2017. The format is 54 holes, 18 each day beginning at 10 a.m. Eastern time from both the first and 10^th tees, with the low four individual scores of five each day counting toward the team total.

Tech, No. 9 Washington and No. 14 Stanford, the host, are the highest ranked teams in the field, which also includes Brigham Young, California, Cal Poly, Colorado, Denver, Drexel, Florida Atlantic, Georgia Tech, Hawaii-Hilo, Howard, Long Beach State, Miami (Ohio), Nevada, Northwestern, Oregon, Rutgers, Saint Mary’s, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose State, SMU, Stanford, UC Davis, UCLA, Washington State and Wofford.

Host Stanford has won the tournament 16 times since the inaugural event in 1968. Past individual winners include major golf champions Tom Watson and Corey Pavin, as well as veteran PGA Tour pros like Duffy Waldorf and Billy Mayfair, and younger pros like Nick Taylor, Patrick Rodgers, Maverick McNealy and Brandon Wu.
