Both pitchers controlled the game from the circle early on until Syracuse struck first in the top of the fifth with a two-RBI homerun. Georgia Tech answered with a pair of runs of its own in the bottom half as freshman left fielder Auburn Dupree reached to lead off and was followed by a single from Edgmon, allowing a Black double to knot the game at two apiece. The Yellow Jackets kept the Orange bats at bay in the top of the sixth, but added two more scores in the bottom of the frame by way of two RBI singles. Senior second baseman Bailee Zeitler led things off with a single and moved to second, setting up an RBI single from Edgmon followed by yet another RBI single off the bat of Black. Syracuse went down in order in the top of the seventh, securing Tech’s series-opening, 4-2 win.
