THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s tennis players Andres Martin and Marcus McDaniel earned top 10 rankings in the most recent ITA Division I National Rankings, the organization announced on Wednesday.
“Dre deserves the recognition in singles and Dre and Marcus deserve the recognition in doubles because it reflects their successful fall season,” Byers Men’s Tennis Head Coach Kenny Thorne said. “That said, rankings don’t matter much until you get into March and the dust settles from many more results. These guys anchored the team last year and are definitely good enough to carry on as well as improve this year.”
The doubles pairing of McDaniel/Martin earned the No. 3 ranking after winning the ITA Southeast Regionals and making it to the semifinals of the ITA Fall Nationals during the fall season.
The last time a Yellow Jackets doubles pairing was ranked higher than this was when Kevin King and Juan Spir were ranked No. 1 in the preseason 2011-12 rankings. King and Spir are currently coaches on the Jackets staff.
