Jackets Rout Stetson, 77-52

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s basketball used red-hot shooting and lockdown defense to stifle Stetson, winning 77-52 on Friday night at McCamish Pavilion.

The Yellow Jackets (1-1) never trailed, jumping out to a quick lead and pushing it to as large as 25 to close thanks to a 52-percent shooting from the field and a blistering 47-percent (9-of-19) from downtown.

Tech was led by Jordan Usher, who recorded a career-high 11 rebounds to go along with 14 points and five assists for his second career double-double. After a team-high nine points in the first half, Michael Devoe then commanded the second half, finishing with a game-high 17 points on the night.

Devoe also finished with seven assists, five rebounds and three steals. Freshman Dallan “Deebo” Coleman also reached double digits on the night, recording 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting (4-of-6 were from downtown).

The Hatters (1-1) struggled to find offense in the first half, not scoring their 10th point until the nine-minute mark, but regained their footing in the second half to finish the game with a 35-percent field goal percentage.

They were led by Chase Johnston, who finished with 13 points and four rebounds on the night.

Georgia Tech remains at home for its next game, hosting Lamar on Monday Nov. 15 at McCamish Pavilion. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra, ESPN+ and 680AM/93.7FM.

TEAM NOTES

• After hitting just four 3s in 17 attempts (all by Michael Devoe) against Miami, Georgia Tech went 9-of-19 against Stetson, with four different players connecting. Freshmen Deebo Coleman (4-for-6) and Miles Kelly, and transfer Deivon Smith each made the first 3s in their Yellow Jacket careers.
• The Yellow Jackets have held both opponents this season under 40 percent shooting from the floor. Miami hit 39.1 percent, Stetson hit 35.0 percent.
• Tech used 11 players and 10 of them got in the scoring column. Tech’s bench has outscored that of its opponent in both games (34-21 vs. Stetson). The Jackets’ reserves outscored their opponents last year only six times, but won all six.

INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS

• Michael Devoe hit a 3 in his 12^th straight game dating back to last Feb. 10 vs. Virginia, draining his first attempt against Stetson. The 2021 ACC Tournament MVP made at least one in 23 of 26 games last season, including the final 10 in a row.
• Devoe has reached double figures in 12 straight games as well, with that Virginia game being the last time he didn’t, and has done so 61 times in his career.
• Devoe had seven assists, one shy of his career best, five rebounds and three steals.
• Jordan Usher notched his second career double-double with 14 points and a career-best 11 rebounds against Stetson. He missed a double-double by one rebound (12 pts, 9 reb) against Miami of Ohio. His only other game with double-digit rebounds came in the 2020-21 season opener vs. Georgia State (15 pts, 10 boards).
• Usher went 7-of-10 from the floor and added 5 assists.
• Dallan “Deebo” Coleman hit his first four 3-point attempts and went 4-for-6 from distance in the game, notching his first double-digit scoring game (12 points).
• Sophomore Jordan Meka and freshman Jalon Moore saw their first action of the season.
