Jackets Continue Strong Play at Fall Classic

GREENVILLE, S.C. – On the second day of action at the Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic, Georgia Tech took home two doubles titles and collected six singles victories. Six Yellow Jackets will compete for singles flight titles on Sunday.

Georgia Tech entered the final round of doubles seeking to win a pair of flights. Kylie Bilchev and Ava Hrastar took home doubles flight two, cruising to a 6-1 decision over Duke’s Kelly Chen and Eliza Omirou. Teammates Carol Lee and Kate Sharabura also proved victorious in the flight three finals. The Jackets faced another Duke tandem, Georgia Drummy and Emma Jackson, and pocketed a 6-1 triumph. In the back draw, Mahak Jain and Ruth Marsh collected a 6-1 decision over Maggie Pate and Ilayda Baykan on Furman.

After doubles, the teams played one round of singles. Six Yellow Jackets advanced to their singles flight finals, pocketing victories on Saturday. Bilchev got things started, rolling to a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Duke’s Ellie Coleman in flight one, while Hrastar claimed a spot in the flight two finals with a come-from-behind victory. After dropping the first set 7-5 to Anya Brylin (Wake Forest), Hrastar evened the match, taking the second set 7-5. The Jacket solidified the victory in the third set with a 6-3 triumph.

In flight four, Lee dropped only two games en route to a 6-2, 6-0 rout of Duke’s Kelly Chen to move into the title match. Also competing for flight titles on Sunday will be Monika Dedaj, who battled back to a three-set win over Lana Sipek (Clemson) after dropping the first set, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, and Sharabura, who picked up a 6-2, 7-5 win over Furman’s Ilayda Baykan in flight 11.

Play will conclude on Sunday with the final round of singles.
