LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Georgia Tech baseball was unable to hang on to its one-run lead, dropping a tough-luck 5-4 decision to No. 4 Louisville on a rainy Sunday afternoon at Jim Patterson Stadium.
The Yellow Jackets (16-8, 5-4 ACC) worked to lead for much of the game before a bases-loaded single drove in the Cardinals’ (19-6, 6-4 ACC) game-winning run.
In the nail-biter, Tech was led at the plate by Tristin English, who tallied three RBI off a two-RBI single and a sac fly, while seven total Jackets secured hits on the day. Louisville finished with 12 hits overall and four multi-hit efforts, highlighted by Justin Lavey’s 3-for-4 outing.
On the mound, the Jackets used three relief pitchers after Brant Hurter allowed just three runs on eight hits. Jonathan Hughes (2-2) came in to close, allowing two runs on one hit, while fanning two and walking three. The Cardinals’ Bobby Miller allowed three runs off four hits over five innings before they went to the bullpen twice. Michael Kirian (1-0) ended up with the win after throwing 1.2 scoreless.
The Yellow Jackets return home after four games on the road and will renew Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate on Tuesday, March 26 when they host No. 5 Georgia at Russ Chandler Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra.
Postgame Notes:
- The loss snapped Georgia Tech’s five-game winning streak. The Jackets finish the week 3-1 and are 7-3 in their last 10.
- Jake Lee and Luke Bartnicki also combined for 1.1 innings of scoreless baseball in relief.
- Luke Waddell, Michael Guldberg, Kyle McCann, Tristin English, Oscar Serratos, Colin Hall and Austin Wilhite all finished with one hit on the day as Tech saw contribution from the entire lineup.
