Women’s Basketball Celebrates WBCA Day of Service

THE FLATS – Over the past several days, the Georgia Tech women’s basketball team has gone into the Atlanta community for service projects to celebrate the national WBCA Day of Service initiative. The Yellow Jackets visited local elementary schools and partnered with Team IMPACT to sign 11-year old Keren Clay.

* Last Monday, freshman guard Jasmine Carson and senior forward Martine Fortune visited Ivy Prep Academy to have lunch with K-2 graders to discuss leadership, dreaming big and setting goals as part of the school’s “Monarch Monday” initiative.

* On Sept. 20, the entire team joined a celebration of the signing of 11-year old Keren Clay with Team IMPACT. Keren was diagnosed in 2018 with Rhabdomyosarcoma and has been undergoing treatment since March. The newest team member will join the Jackets at practice, games, team dinners and team functions throughout the season as her schedule permits.

* To help kick-off the 2018 “Jacket 2 Jacket” reading program, Anne Francoise Diouf, Daijah Jefferson, Kondalia Montgomery and Chanin Scott visited a local elementary school on Tuesday for a reading circle. Each student-athlete picked out a children’s book to read to the class to help encourage and promote reading. Each year, women’s basketball hosts the “Jacket 2 Jacket” reading challenge with local schools to encourage their students to read as many pages during the month of October as possible. The winners are treated to special visits from members of the Yellow Jackets.
