Muguruza Advances to Quarterfinals of Southern Intercollegiate

Athens, Ga.–Jose Luis Muguruza advanced to the quarterfinals of the Southern Intercollegiate in Athens, Ga. at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. Muguruza defeated Nate Enge of Kentucky in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. Muguruza will face Greg Oulette of Florida in the semifinal match-up.

Muguruza is the only Yellow Jacket who is currently undefeated in singles play. On Friday, Muguruza defeated Nathan Sachs of Vanderbilt (6-1, 6-0) and Angel Diankov of Virginia Tech (6-1, 6-7, 6-2). On Saturday, Muguruza downed Enge of Kentucky to advance to the semifinals.

Freshmen David North and George Grelesiani both advanced to the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket. North defeated Ryan Preston Vanderbilt and Anton Brykalin of Auburn-Montgomery in the lower half of the Division I draw. On Sunday, North will take the court in the quarterfinals against Kai Schledorn of Middle Tennessee State. Grelesiani received a bye in the first round of the consolation bracket before downing Marlo Santoso of UNC-Charlotte in Saturday’s action. Grelesiani will face Hume in the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket on Sunday.

In doubles action, Georgia Tech’s duo of Muguruza and Marko Rajevac advanced passed Balzekas and Babenko of Auburn-Montgomery and sixth seeded Allan and Schledorn of Middle Tennessee State to advance the quarterfinals of the Southern Intercollegiate in Division I doubles. In other doubles action, David North and Scott Blackmon defeated tandems Shults and Samuelson from Duke and Berry and Martin of Tennessee to reach the quarterfinals in the Division II doubles bracket. The duo of Noah Tyler and Grelesiani fell in the first round to Dufaux and Mack of Vanderbilt.
