BLACKSBURG, Va. – Alphonso Jordan finished with NCAA provisional qualifying mark to win the men’s triple jump as he led the Georgia Tech track & field teams on the first day of the VT Elite meet at the Rector Field House on the Virginia Tech campus.
Jordan placed first in the triple jump with a personal-best mark of 52 feet, 4 ¾ inches. James Lemons II landed in second place with an NCAA provisional mark of 52 feet, 3 ¼ inches.
David Ford placed fourth in the men’s 60-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 8.05 seconds. Matt DiDia finished fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.36.
In the men’s 5,000-meter run, Matt Hickey crossed the line third with a time of 15:18.13. Garad Soderman placed fifth with a time of 15:29.80. The men’s squad had a team in the Distance Medley Relay finish second with a time of 9:56.59 and a team that placed sixth with a time of 10:15.45.
The No. 22 ranked women’s team was led by Shantia Moss, who finished second in the women’s 200m dash with a time of 24.40. Jenae Anderson crossed the line eighth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.57.
Tiffany Grant finished the 400-meter dash invitational in eighth place with a time of 55.28.
The women’s Distance Medley Relay team of Elena Linn, Amanda Montgomery, Leslie Njoku and Ashley Keck finished sixth with a time of 12:23.01.
Tech continues action at the VT Elite meet tomorrow morning.
