Miller Guides Tech on Day One of ITA National Indoors

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Kristi Miller posted singles and doubles wins as Georgia Tech advanced three singles players and one doubles team to the next rounds of the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Tennis Championship, which is being hosted by The Ohio State University in Columbus.

Miller, seventh-seeded Amanda McDowell and freshman Maya Johansson all survived first round tests on day one in the Round of 32.

Miller, the sixth-seeded singles player in the tournament, stopped seventh-ranked Megan Moulton Levy of William & Mary in straight sets, 7-6 (4), 6-4, while McDowell cruised to a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Ohio State’s Angela Dipastina. Johansson split her first two sets against Notre Dame’s Cosima Ciobanu, 7-5, 4-6, but posted a 7-5 victory in the third and final set to advance to the Round of 16.

Earlier in the day, Tech’s third-ranked and third-seeded duo of Miller and Whitney McCray notched an 8-2 victory over Boise State’s Polina Kokoulina and Pichittra Thongdach, 8-2, to advance to the quarterfinals.

One round of doubles and two of singles will be played Friday, beginning at 9 a.m.

Elsewhere, Tech freshman Noelle Hickey will open her play in the FSU Invitational, hosted by Florida State in Tallahassee Nov. 2-4.
