THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s tennis (13-13, 4-8 ACC) is set to travel to the ACC Championships this week in Cary, N.C. The tournament will take place from Wednesday, April 19 to Sunday, 23.
The ninth-seeded Jackets will start out tournament play with a matchup against eighth-seed Miami on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. The two teams met a few weeks ago when Miami claimed 5-2 over Tech.
The Miami Hurricanes are ranked at No. 45 in the latest ITA poll. The team went 14-9 this season with five wins in conference play, but were 0-4 against nationally-ranked opponents.
This past weekend, the Jackets went 1-1 in their final weekend of regular season competition. Tech took down Virginia Tech in a 4-3 decision on Friday but fell 6-1 to a top-ranked Virginia on Sunday.
At the 2022 ACC Championships, the men’s tennis team made a successful run before falling to North Carolina in the semifinals. However, Tech opened the tournament with a win over Miami and went on to take down top-10 ranked Wake Forest.
Ahead of the tournament, Tech has earned five spots in the ITA rankings and an ACC Weekly Award. No. 9 Andres Martin, No. 70 Keshav Chopra and No. 78 Marcus McDaniel claimed spots in the top singles players list. In addition, the pairings of Martin and McDaniel as well as Martin and Chopra were ranked 28th and 45th on the top doubles teams list.
Along with the rankings, No. 45 Martin and Chopra were recognized as the ACC Men’s Doubles Team of the Week for their performances last weekend. The duo is undefeated and on a four-match winning streak.
